I have taken care to disable the freeze file system option until this problem can be resolved. It seems to me that Bridge is not interacting well or being fully respectful of the way the APFS format works within the operating system during this feature. Without freezing, the photo library could get modified before it has been fully copied, potentially leading to a corrupt library on the destination! For example, the Photos app will continuously update and modify your photo library even when you have not used the app. The best Mac alternative is FreeFileSync, which is both free and Open Source. This is even true if the computer is being used at the time the sync/backup is running.įreezing the file system is important because macOS is constantly modifying files, even when you are not actively using them. Home Backup & Sync ChronoSync Alternatives ChronoSync Alternatives for Mac There are many alternatives to ChronoSync for Mac if you are looking for a replacement. but ChronoSync could have a much wider user base by allowing Itself to sync back-and-forth natively with dropbox cloud storage. This guarantees the destination will mirror the source at the exact moment the sync/backup begins. Dropbox itself has no interest in integrating something Like ChronoSync, because theyre essentially competitors when it comes to the sinking process. The snapshot freezes all the files at the moment the sync/backup runs so there is no possibility of any files being modified, added, or removed during the course of the sync/backup. If using APFS as a source, the "Freeze File System" feature will take a snapshot of the file system before backing it up. The documentation of the feature on ChronoSync's website is as follows: Thank you for simplifying the process of backing up my iMac.The hard drive does not become read-only with the APFS hard drive format on Mac OS. I truly appreciate all of the hard work you've put into developing this valuable utility. It is the one application you can count on for both reliable backups and easy folder synchronization. I had my backup setup and scheduled in about 15 minutes and I didn't even need the Help file.Ĭan you do it on a Mac? Yeah, but how? Install third party apps to work with Time Machine? Or run scripts using Terminal? Uuuuuuhhh. ChronoSync Express is the entry-level version of the popular ChronoSync utility. It's a piece of cake to do that on a Windows PC using a batch file and the Task Scheduler, but even that is not as simple as the ChronoSync process. I just wanted to be able to select the files I want to back up and then schedule the process at a time of my choosing, which can't easily be done on a Mac. I've only been using it for a few days and feel I've got my money's worth out of it already. This software is awesome easy to use, doesn't bog down my iMac (like Time Machine used to), it's just a rock solid product in my opinion. I downloaded the trial version of ChronoSync a couple of days ago and I didn't need the 15 day evaluation period to make my decision. Fixed a bug in the Backup Multiple Folders assistant that could lead to a crash if the assistant failed to create any destination folders that it was asked to create.Fixed some cosmetic problems on the last panel of several Assistants when running on macOS Ventura.
